Why Concrete Is the Right Choice for Your Pool Deck

There are a few options for pool decking, including pavers, wood, and composite materials. Concrete stands out for a few important reasons that matter a lot in a coastal Southern California climate like Huntington Beach.

Drainage and Safety: What We Get Right Every Time

A pool deck has to handle large amounts of water on a daily basis. If the slope is wrong, water pools on the surface and seeps under the slab, which leads to lifting, cracking, and soil erosion. Every pool deck we pour is graded to drain water away from the pool shell, the house, and any structures nearby.

We also pay close attention to expansion joints. Concrete expands and contracts with temperature changes. Without properly placed joints, that movement has nowhere to go and ends up cracking the slab. We cut or place control joints at the right intervals so any movement happens where we planned it, not randomly through the surface.

For safety, all finishes we use near pool water are selected to provide traction in wet conditions. We do not use polished or sealed finishes near the water edge where slipping is a real risk. Safety is built into how we design and finish the surface, not added as an afterthought.
